The RFA Situation Needs Fixing

Mitch Marner

So it's now September and there are way too many restricted free agents unsigned.  The major ones include Mitch Marner (Maple Leafs), Patrik Laine (Jets), Mikko Rantenen (Avalance), Brayden Point (Lightning), Brock Boeser (Canucks), Charlie McAvoy (Bruins), and Zach Werenski (Blue Jackets).  There seem to be two main reasons for why this is dragging out, deadlines and market setting. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Players And Teams Are Waiting For The Market To Be Set One of the major reasons players and GM's are reluctant to complete a deal is that they don't want to be the ones to set the market.  For instance, if Brayden Point signs first, then that sets the market for the guys arguably

Pierre McGuire Demoted By NBC

According to reports, Pierre McGuire has been demoted FINALLY! from NBC's top broadcast crew.  He no longer will be with Doc Emrick and Ed Olczyk for the nationally broadcasted games on NBC and NBCSports.  He will be replaced by former Flyers goalie Brian Boucher.  McGuire is a very polarizing figure to most hockey fans, you either love him or hate him, although I think majority of fans will agree with his recent new assignment.  Here are some of our favorite memes: one fan's take on Pierre: (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); We won't miss you much Pierre...Enjoy the west coast games!

Justin Williams Takes A Break From NHL?

Justin Williams Carolina Hurricanes

Justin Williams, Mr Game 7, announced that he would be taking a break from the NHL: "This is the first time in my life that I've felt unsure of my aspirations with regards to hockey," Williams said in a statement released by the team. "For as long as I can remember, my whole offseason until this point has been hockey and doing what was necessary to prepare for the upcoming season. "Because of my current indecision, and without the type of mental and physical commitment that I'm accustomed to having, I've decided to step away from the game," he added. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); No where in any article we've read does it say anything about him retiring,

San Jose Sharks Limp Into Playoffs

Martin Jones SJ Sharks

The San Jose Sharks entered this season as a Stanley Cup favorite and deservedly so.  Over the past few years they've added some significant pieces in F Evander Kane and D Erik Karlsson.  These additions plus the likes of Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture, Joe Thornton, Brent Burns created quite a buzz in the Bay Area.  For most of the season, the team played fairly consistent earning them their fourth straight postseason appearance.  The Sharks started off March with a bang, rattling off 6 straight wins.  Then the wheels fell off the bus with 2 wins in the next 11 games (2-8-1), and therefore are the limping into the playoffs. Sharks - The Good This team has shown it is one of the

Scott Foster … One Year Later

Scott Foster NHL

March 28, 2019 the Blackhawks were playing the Jets and their backup goalie was hurt in the third period.  In came EBUG (Emergency backup goaltender) Soctt Foster.  Accountant by day, Foster was a college goalie from 2002-2006 at Western Michigan and was unexpectedly thrown into the spotlight in Chicago.  He came in and made 7 saves to preserve the victory. A year later this story still is one of the most compelling and unlikely stories in recent memory in the NHL.

Is Alex Ovechkin The Best Goal Scorer Of All Time

Alex Ovechkin Washington Capitals

As Alex Ovechkin finishes his eighth 50 goal season of his career, it makes you think, is he the greatest goal scorer of all time?  Currently, the Washington Capitals captain sits 13th all time in goals with 658 in 1082 games.  Thats an average of .6 goals per game throughout his career.  The Great 8 has proven to be quite durable throughout his 14 year career never playing less than 72 games (he played all 48 in the lockout shortened 2012-13 season).  He is only 33 and it would be fair to assume he could play until 40.  Therefore It would be conceivable that he could come close to, if not surpass, Wayne Gretzky's all time 894 goals and perhaps

What’s Going On In LA?

LA Kings NHL

No one agrees more than the LA Kings players that this season has not gone to plan.  Many NHL experts picked this team to not only make the playoffs, but finish 2nd or 3rd in the division.  These expectations were on the heels of a 45 win 98 point season in 2017-18.  Not to mention the addition of Ilya Kovalchuk to an already seemingly deep forward core.  That plus Drew Doughty on the backend and Jonathan Quick in net should have translated into growth this season. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); With about a week to go in the season LA has been eliminated from the playoffs for a while now and sits dead last in the Western Conference and second to

Rethinking The Norris Trophy Criteria

Ryan Suter Minnesota Wild

As the season comes to a close in the coming weeks, the Professional Hockey Writers Association is going to vote on the Norris trophy, amongst other awards, as the NHL's best defenseman.  This award is named for James E Norris, the long time owner of the Detroit Red Wings dating back to 1932.  The criteria for the award is the best NHL defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.   (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); In recent memory this award is given to the best all around defenseman, but more emphasis has been placed on the offensive side than the actual defense.  This is the case mainly due to the fact that points are more measurable
