Justin Williams, Mr Game 7, announced that he would be taking a break from the NHL:
“This is the first time in my life that I’ve felt unsure of my aspirations with regards to hockey,” Williams said in a statement released by the team. “For as long as I can remember, my whole offseason until this point has been hockey and doing what was necessary to prepare for the upcoming season.
“Because of my current indecision, and without the type of mental and physical commitment that I’m accustomed to having, I’ve decided to step away from the game,” he added.
No where in any article we’ve read does it say anything about him retiring, but at age 37 does this mean he is done with profession hockey? The three time Stanley Cup champion was vague when it comes to his future plans.
Our best guess is that if Carolina is a playoff bound team mid way through the season he quick signs a 1 year pact with them. Half a season could be better for both Williams and the Canes. With 23 goals last season, he still has some gas left in the tank and if Carolina is still playing in the spring, look for Williams to be in mid season form.
